How to Get Dates From Gmail Onto Your Apple Calendar Automatically
A lot of people read email in Gmail and run their day from the Calendar app on an iPhone. The two don't talk to each other as much as you would expect, so dates in Gmail often never make it to the calendar you actually check.
Why Gmail dates stay in Gmail
Gmail can create events for some confirmations, but those go to Google Calendar, not to your Apple calendar. And like most email apps, it only does this for certain kinds of messages. A date mentioned in an ordinary email stays in the email.
Option 1: Show Google Calendar inside Apple Calendar
On your iPhone, add your Google account under Settings and turn on Calendars. Your Google Calendar events will then appear in the Apple Calendar app. This is worth doing, and it means anything that lands on Google Calendar shows up on your phone.
It does not solve the bigger problem: most dates in your email never reach Google Calendar in the first place.
Option 2: Copy dates by hand
Open the email, open the calendar, type it in. It works when you do it, and fails on the busy days when you don't.
Option 3: Let an app read Gmail for dates
SmartCal Pro connects to Gmail with a secure Google sign-in and reads new mail for important dates: deadlines, renewals, appointments, school events. It adds them to the calendar you choose, including Apple, with a reminder. SmartCal Pro is also on the App Store, so notifications reach your iPhone.
Found dates wait for your approval under Events, or go straight on if you turn on Auto Add.
The short answer
Turn on your Google calendars in iPhone Settings, then let SmartCal Pro pull dates out of Gmail and put them where you look. Your first week includes every Power User feature.
